It has caused a sensation, admiration, surprise, and some skepticism since it was made available to the public. ChatGPT has become the latest media phenomenon and has managed to bring Artificial Intelligence closer to the general public, who were discovering this term in almost any technology document within their reach without being able to make it tangible.
What is ChatGPT
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot service based on the GPT-3.5 language model, presented in 2022 and released for public use in November 2022.
This chat system is trained to hold conversations using natural language. Its level of evolution is such that a conversation held between humans cannot be distinguished from a conversation that a human might have with ChatGPT.

GPT-3 development team
OpenAI, developers of GPT-3, is an organization created in 2015 with the purpose of building an open, safe, and equitable Artificial Intelligence system for all of humanity. Its values were set out in this manifesto.
Initial support came from Elon Musk, Peter Thiel (co-founder of PayPal and Palantir), Reid Hoffman (co-founder of LinkedIn), and companies such as Amazon and Infosys, who backed the project to reach, in the form of donor contributions, a total of $1 billion.
In 2018, OpenAI presented GPT-2, a language sufficiently advanced to create texts starting from a single sentence, and in June 2022, OpenAI presented, under a commercial license, GPT-3, which it made available to the public through a chat system called ChatGPT.
ChatGPT is capable of writing articles, explaining theorems, solving mathematical problems, writing raps, or writing software.
Microsoft and ChatGPT
In July 2019, Microsoft made its first investment in OpenAI, for an amount of $1 billion USD, in the form of cash and Azure credits, becoming the preferred partner for the commercialization of ChatGPT services and making Azure the ChatGPT platform.
In January 2022, Microsoft announced a new investment, this time for an amount of $10 billion USD. This outlay represents a reinforcement of the joint plans of both companies and a decisive declaration by Microsoft to integrate ChatGPT services into its products.
During this announcement, Satya Nadella made a full declaration of support by making public the intention to incorporate ChatGPT into all Microsoft products.
Bing and ChatGPT
One of the first products to incorporate ChatGPT could be its search engine Bing. The incorporation is expected to happen so quickly that late March (yes, 2023) is circulating as a possible date for its integration.
This could mean a leap forward for Bing in its competition with Google, both for the boost it could give to its functionality and for the virality that has been created during the weeks in which the chat system has been available, which could transfer to Microsoft’s search engine.
Microsoft’s idea would not be to replace searches with a ChatGPT response, but to use its service to improve Bing’s answers and results, better understanding the search context and user intent, improving the fit of results to customers’ natural language searches.
In the words of the chatbot itself, GPT could help Bing gather more accurate and relevant results, helping Bing to better understand the context or intent of the user’s search and thus giving them better results.
And, of course, ChatGPT could be a good ally to improve Bing’s Ads systems, making them more precise and optimizing its revenue.
Without ruling out other possible uses in Bing.
DALL-E 2
In the same way, Microsoft announced its intention to use the famous artificial intelligence model for transcribing text to images, DALL-E 2, in Bing.
According to this source, it is expected to be implemented in the coming months, although timelines could vary.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ChatGPT
Microsoft Dynamics 365 will benefit doubly from the use of GPT-3 in Microsoft products. On one hand, ChatGPT is capable of generating code based on natural language; you can see an example in this article by Thomas Sandsor, dated 22/12/2022, in which the author generates a plugin for Dynamics 365 that sums the value of products linked to an opportunity.
Microsoft 365 and ChatGPT
Another clear fit for ChatGPT within Microsoft products would be in Microsoft 365. Incorporating this technology into Word and PowerPoint could help its customers automatically generate content using simple prompts.
In the case of Outlook, ChatGPT could automatically generate emails using the previous email history and the reply we wish to offer the sender.
In the same way, it would improve searches, allowing natural language in search boxes and the use of context to refine results.
For PowerPoint, the company plans to use DALL-E, another tool developed by OpenAI for the creation of personalized images.
PowerApps and ChatGPT
Power Platform is not left out of this list of Microsoft products that will incorporate OpenAI technology.
Jennifer Langston gave us an example, in this 2021 article, of the difference between the instruction based on Power Fx code to obtain a list of products in PowerApps.

Azure and ChatGPT
In November 2021, Microsoft incorporated Azure OpenAI into its solutions portfolio, available to some enterprise customers.
This will now become a public but restricted service; companies that wish to access it may do so, provided that their use of it aligns with the ethical and responsible AI principles established by Microsoft. As noted, the service is restricted, meaning it must be requested and approved by Microsoft.
Azure OpenAI will provide access to the GPT-3.5, Codex, and DALL-E systems and, shortly, ChatGPT itself.
The other piece it also plans to add is Azure, Microsoft’s platform that provides access to and management of applications and services, which would help the company position itself as the reference in the world of cloud computing oriented toward artificial intelligence.
The future of ChatGPT
Finally, we asked ChatGPT to tell us about its own future, and this is what it told us:
“The future of ChatGPT and other natural language processing models like it is promising. As technology advances, language models like ChatGPT are expected to become increasingly accurate and capable of handling an ever-growing variety of tasks. Some areas in which language models are expected to play an important role in the future include:
- Virtual assistants: language models like ChatGPT could be used to create more advanced virtual assistants capable of handling a variety of tasks and questions.
- Automatic content generation: language models could be used to automatically generate content such as articles, stories, and emails.
- Automatic translation: language models could be used to improve the accuracy of automatic translation.
- Sentiment and opinion analysis: language models could be used to automatically analyze opinions and sentiments expressed in text.
However, it is important to remember that the development of these technologies also entails ethical and legal challenges, which is why work is being done on developing strategies to mitigate the risks associated with their use.”
